Mr. Mark Setter MS232

Tool

In stock

Mr. Mark Setter is a water-slide decal setting solution designed to improve adhesion and finish for model kits and scale models. It softens decals and helps them conform smoothly to curved or uneven surfaces, reducing the risk of silvering while ensuring a more natural, painted-on appearance.

By applying Mr. Mark Setter to the surface before placing your decal, the adhesive effect increases, securing the decal firmly in place. This makes it especially useful for larger decals, markings over panel lines, or fine details where extra hold is needed.

How to Use

  1. Apply Mr. Mark Setter to the area where the decal will be placed.
  2. Position the decal and adjust as needed.
  3. Gently press down to remove excess solution and air bubbles.
  4. Allow to dry for a secure finish.

For best results, pair with Mr. Mark Softer for complex surfaces and panel lines.

Questions

Question
There seems to be an error in the sentence "After air bubbles are removed by pressing on the decal with a cotton swab, a coating of Mr. MARK SOFTER is applied and allowed to dry." "Mr. MARK SOFTER" should be "MR. MARK SETTER", I suppose?
Answer
No, just the wording is confusing. In the description where it says “paint” it’s referring to using the decal setter to “paint” the surface, then apply decal then apply softer. While the description is correct it’s just confusing wording.

According to descriptions on Mr. Hobby's website (see: https://www.mr-hobby.com/en/product2/category_11/215.html (setter) and https://www.mr-hobby.com/en/product2/category_11/214.html (softer)), the setter is applied on top of the decal.

I believe the correct way to apply Setter and Softer is first to spread Mark Setter on the desired surface, lay the decal on said surface, apply pressure with a cotton swab, and then apply Mark Softer on top of the decal.

Question
Could this be used on dry transfer decals? Some MG kits come with such decals.
Answer
Only use mark setter and other softener products on waterslide decals. Wet decal setters and softeners will ruin dry transfer decals.

Question
Can this be mixed together with Mr. Mark softer (like pouring both into the same bottle) and will it work the same?
Answer
No. One is designed to be put under a decal before applying (softer) and the other is meant to be put over it after applying (setter).

Question
Could I use this directly on a part that I have painted with Mr.Color or similar paints? Or is a clear coat need to be put on first to protect the paint?
Answer
On cured paints, this should work without any issue. Adding a gloss coat just helps prevent silvering on decals after it dries.

Excellent Stick

I had never used Mark Setter before the last kit I worked on. My waterslide decals would go on fine, but after a few months in display, they would fall off with ease. This product creates a very fine adhesion so that your decals stick firmly to your plastic. I was worried that it would have a violent interation with paint, but it has absolutely no effect on it. Highly recommend a vial if you're a serious modeller who applies decals frequently, one bottle will last you many many model kits.
