The First Grade (FG) kits were released as part of the Gundam 20th Anniversary Big Bang Project in 1999 as a modern remake of the original 1980s 1/144 kits. The kits are molded in one color and contain no polycaps, but feature snap-fit assembly of current kits.

Why did bandai do a reprint on first grades, there are much better rx 78 2 and zaku kits out there
Answer
They do reprints of pretty much everything. There's still some folks out there that want the OG gunplas like these too, whether it be for a building/painting challenge, or just seeing what it was like back then. Better than letting history be forgotten like dust in the wind, I'd say.
