Old MGs still have some charm

This is one of the first MGs ever produced, and the first to have a partial inner frame. So it’s quite the kit for its time. But it’s now close to 4 decades later and things have aged. That being said, if you paint it like the manual it still looks amazing. The old MGs were produced by Hajime Katoki and you can see his detailing and proportions in this one for sure. Articulation is bad but still can mess anround with it, and you need to use some sticky tack to keep the weapons attached, but with some extra effort this at least looks as good as any modern kit.

A shambling mess

This kit can barely stand up, barely hold its weapons and really just does not look good. I built this in my younger less experienced days but I think a lot of the problems are just inherent to the kit and the core fighter gimmick which really compromises the stability of the kit. But this kit has old MG hand syndrome and they don't hold up and even the shoulders arms are super saggy. The legs can barely keep it upright. I think that the ambition of the kit's design was just beyond the engineering of the time. I debated giving this kit 2 stars because some of this could be fixed with super glue and tightening up the joints. But why put yourself through all that pain for a subpar kit? Personally, I'd just get one of the action figure versions of this mobile suit if you like it that much.

Hmm...okay

It's dated...it's clunky...if you don't use Gundam markers or paint it will be a glaring white beacon on the shelf...the core-fighter is, at best, clunky in its design. BUT! Like the Rx-78-2 Ver 1.5 I would recommend this kit to people new to Gundam models. There is enough going on the let you know the basics of MG models and...I really like 0083 THERE! I said it!
