It's actually an update of the original LM model from 1996, so it's very much of that time period (albeit with some new tooling added in 2001) and feels more like the step in Gunpla history right before HGUC where they had pretty much figured everything out mechanically but were still limited by the complexity of the molds. The cons of the kit are that it's very stiff and doesn't pose well (doesn't even have an elbow joint) and lacks color accuracy needing a lot of paint and stickers, but that comes with the tradeoff of better anime accuracy than later kits (as most produced after 2007 use the revised Rebuild proportions), a larger size, and this one actually comes with two figures of Toji and Kaworu similar to the ones included with old MGs that came out around the same time, almost all of the Eva LMHGs include figures to incentivize collecting all of the larger kits to be able to display the whole cast (01 has Shinji, 02 has Asuka and Misato, 00 [Yellow] has Rei and Gendo, etc.). So to answer your question, it's very much different from the High grades of today but still snap-fit and decent quality in today's world, so if you're fine with the cons it's a great not-exactly-little model.
