Thanks for your inquiry! This model kit comes with only the larger powered arms included. As previously stated, it may be possible to make a modification to mount the powered arms to a backpack attachment with the right joint connections. Standard Gundam Astray arms will have to be outsourced, but with a bit of creativity and effort, anything is possible with Gunpla!

Can it stand on its own or does it need a action base and if so which one?

I am not sure if it can stand on its own but the kit uses an action base 1 according to the sinanju animation ver manual

Yes, this can stand on its own after completion. However, with the added weight of the upgrade parts, action bases are recommended to achieve more than just a standard static pose. Be sure to use Action Base 1 or 4 or any other base suited for MG kits.
